About Us

Our history

Founded in 2024, Just Care+ was established with a mission to bridge the gap in healthcare for individuals impacted by the criminal justice system. Recognizing the urgent need for accessible, compassionate healthcare, we created Just Care+ to provide fast, flexible, and patient-centered care. With a diverse team of experienced healthcare professionals, we specialize in correctional health services, adult geriatric primary care, psychiatric mental health, and telemedicine-based care to meet the unique needs of justice-sensitive individuals. We have built strong partnerships with correctional facilities, legal organizations, and social service agencies, ensuring that our patients receive the comprehensive care they deserve. Just Care+ continues to grow as a trusted leader in justice-sensitive healthcare, dedicated to improving health outcomes and advocating for a more just healthcare system.

Dr. Betty Butler is a seasoned healthcare professional with over 20 years of experience in nursing, clinical education, and healthcare leadership. As the Founder and CEO of Just Care+, she holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree and multiple nursing certifications. Dr. Butler has dedicated her career to advancing patient-centered

As the Founder and CEO of Just Care+, she holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree and multiple nursing certifications. Dr. Butler has dedicated her career to advancing patient-centered care through education, mentorship, and clinical excellence. She has served in various leadership roles, including Associate Clinical Professor, Lead Instructor, and Clinical Nurse Specialist, where she has trained and mentored nursing students, new graduates, and healthcare professionals in acute care, community health, and medical-surgical settings. Her expertise spans curriculum development, clinical competency evaluation, and the integration of innovative training programs to enhance patient safety and care quality. Beyond academia, Dr. Butler has extensive hands-on clinical experience in urgent care, primary care, and community health settings, including correctional health services. She has provided direct patient care, conducted health screenings, and contributed to improving healthcare accessibility through mobile community clinics. A recognized leader in the field, Dr. Butler is a Sigma Theta Tau honoree, a recipient of the Great 100 Nurses Award, and an advocate for excellence in nursing education. Her passion for empowering the next generation of healthcare providers continues to shape the future of compassionate healthcare and patient care. Dr. Butler is a dedicated mentor, clinician, and leader whose commitment to nursing education and patient advocacy remains unwavering, making her a steadfast champion for equitable and high-quality healthcare.

As the co-founder and COO of Just Care+, she is a board-certified Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP-BC) with a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from Brandman University. A Certified Correctional Healthcare Professional, she is dedicated to improving healthcare access and outcomes for justice-impacted individuals through compassionate healthcare. With expertise in patient-centered care, nursing leadership, quality improvement, and clinical education, Dr. Muhammad has led transformative initiatives that enhance healthcare delivery within correctional facilities and underserved communities. She has held senior executive roles, overseeing healthcare operations for thousands of patients across multiple states, reducing patient safety events, and improving care quality through strategic innovation. Dr. Muhammad’s contributions to healthcare have earned her numerous awards, including the National Black Nurses Association Administrative Nurse of the Year Award, the NCCHC Young Professional Award, and finalist for the Excellence in Nursing Award from St. Louis Magazine. Recently, she was honored as a Fellow of the Academy of Diversity Leaders in Nursing (FADLN) for her efforts in advancing diversity and inclusion in the field. As a bestselling author and international speaker, Dr. Muhammad has shared her expertise at global conferences, including engagements in Dubai, the National Black Nurses Association Conference, and multiple healthcare leadership summits. She is also a dedicated mentor and educator, serving on national healthcare boards and guiding future nursing leaders. Committed to bridging healthcare disparities, Dr. Muhammad continues to drive change through compassionate, evidence-based care and strategic partnerships with correctional institutions, legal organizations, and community service agencies.

Dr. Monica L. Leverette is a highly skilled and dedicated healthcare professional with over 30 years of experience in nursing, advanced practice, and behavioral health care. As the co-founder and CCO of Just Care+, she exemplifies compassionate healthcare as a dual-certified Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGNP-C) and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from Brandman University. Dr. Leverette’s expertise spans primary care, psychiatric mental health, and substance abuse treatment, reflecting her commitment to patient-centered care. She is the founder of Mind, Body, and Soul Psychiatry, PLLC, where she provides comprehensive mental health and substance abuse care in a private practice setting. In addition, she serves as a Behavioral Health Medical Provider at CODAC Behavioral Health & Wellness, specializing in opioid dependence treatment and psychiatric services, including correctional health services. A United States Army Reserves Nurse Corps veteran, Dr. Leverette served for over 20 years, including a deployment to Baghdad, Iraq, where she was the Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Detainee Medical Clinic and a Behavioral Health Advocate supporting the mental well-being of deployed soldiers. Her clinical and academic background includes leadership in complex care management, nursing education, and dialysis care, having mentored veteran nursing students and taught psychiatric mental health nursing. She is also a Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society inductee and an active member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA), American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), and Michigan Council of Nurse Practitioners (MICNP). With a passion for improving medication adherence and mental health outcomes, Dr. Leverette’s scholarly research focused on using mobile technology to enhance hypertension medication adherence. She continues to be a strong advocate for integrated healthcare solutions that bridge the gap between physical and mental health care.
